Yle Svenska Breaking News
Audico Systems (earlier Bright Installation Oy) provided the Swedish-speaking editorial board of The Finnish Broadcasting Company, Yle, with the "Breaking News" multi-camera production unit, which is easily customizable for various production challenges. The starting point was to build a system that could be operated with as few technical resources as possible, which in practice requires only two people to join the production team.
The new delivered production infrastructure is based on a fully IP-based NDI standard, so that in the future, it will be possible for Yle's other Swedish-language deliveries to connect to the same system over the IP network, such as YLE Ostrobothnia in Vaasa. The IP/NDI web-based workflow enables the simultaneous use of different production resources in different regions with deliveries on the same NDI network infrastructure. In addition, the system enables remote control of shipments.
Bright's installation team was tasked with designing, delivering and installing an entity in accordance with Yle's definition in the shooting room and cockpit. In addition, Bright was responsible for pre-deployment configuration, testing, and administrator audio and video system training. In other words, the entity was delivered to Yle on a "turnkey" basis as a fully ready-to-use production unit.
From the radio control room to a modernized production unit
The modernized production unit consists of a cab built into the control room of the old radio and a floor next to the cab. The complex was built around NewTek's computer-based TriCaster TC1 production equipment supplied by Bright. With TriCaster, the cost-effectiveness of production can be made more efficient, as almost all production can be handled with one device. TriCaster is based on the NDI protocol, which uses the NC1 I/O 'box' module to join. The module allows for the so-called. baseband SDI-based devices joining the system by converting HDSDI digital signals to the NDI protocol IP standard. The NDI network protocol brings savings in cabling, because in one CAT network cable, in addition to video material, a digital 'Dante' standard audio signal, command signals, control signals from PTZ cameras, as well as the operating electricity required by the equipment, can be transferred.
robotic cameras were chosen as the systemPanasonic AW-UN70KEJ 4K/HD PTZ's cameras, which connect directly to the production infrastructure via the NDI interface. The cameras are powered by IT cabling with a PoE+ standard-compliant power supply. The delivery also included a Soundcraft Performer SI2 digital production audio mixer, to which connections were implemented using the digital 'Dante' standard. The advantage of the Performer SI2 audio table is its compatibility with the Vaasa multi-media car. The KVM solution for the cockpit was KVM devices manufactured by the English company Adder, which could be used to connect Tricaster's keyboard, mice and monitors to the device mode.
was chosen as the studioMA Lighting International by the German The Grand MA3 'software-based' light table manufactured 's light table, as similar light tables were already in use in yle's other studios. The Allad LED lights represented by Intersound were chosen as the studio lights, and the lamps were chosen as the effect lights for the shooting Bright XLED RGBW LED Wash mode, which can be set to bring an additional effect according to the requirements of the shooting situation.
The studio's production graphics system is Gaspar CG, which directly supports the NDI protocol. The system was part of Yle's existing hardware, but Bright was responsible for the final installation of the system.
In the future, similar equipment delivered to the Pasila production unit will be utilized in Yle's other Swedish-language deliveries, which will facilitate the cross-use of equipment and personnel.
