Pavarotti-level acoustics have arrived at the Jyväskylä Pavilion's Encore hall

The Jyväskylä Symphony can now be heard in world-class surroundings. The concert hall's acoustics have been designed by Europe's leading acousticians, Eckhard Kahle and Henrik Möller. In addition to physical acoustics, they have chosen the electronic Meyer Sound Constellation acoustic system. The implementation quality of the system is overseen by Grammy-awarded and long-careered Meyer Sound project director John Pellowe. Audico Systems Oy is responsible for the system's execution.

The acoustics of the Jyväskylä Pavilion's Encore hall have been modernized to meet the demanding needs of the Jyväskylä Symphony. The acoustics also take into account other uses of the hall such as meetings and the requirements of amplified music. Previously, adapting different situations to the same hall with just physical acoustics solutions has been challenging. The Pavilion's new system allows for acoustic flexibility without physically modifying the spaces, utilizing shell structures, acoustic curtains, and other materials.

The Jyväskylä Symphony gets excellent facilities for rehearsals and concerts. It has been a pleasure to be involved in a project where acoustics have been fine-tuned together with all parties, the orchestra, Meyer Sound, and Audico. I look forward to the first concert on January 18, 2024, says Antti Murto from Audico Systems Oy.

The Constellation acoustic system is based not only on physical sound reflections but also on capturing sound through 76 microphones, which is then fed into a robust digital processor system and played back through 209 speakers. The processing performs tens of thousands of calculations, which after precise measurements and calibrations have been adjusted in collaboration with John Pellowe and the acousticians during extensive listening sessions. A unique feature is that as experience accumulates, fine-tuning can continue electronically without the need to physically alter the structures.

Constellation can be controlled via phone, iPad, or laptop, allowing users to choose acoustic settings for different types of performances. The system has been installed in over 190 locations worldwide.

Audico Systems did an excellent job in installation and coordination to complete this challenging project. After the tuning and initial rehearsals, the reaction of the Jyväskylä Symphony has been very positive. We look forward to collaborating with the orchestra, says Grammy-awarded John Pellowe from Meyer Sound, who has also worked as the sound director for Luciano Pavarotti.
